Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The one-time leader was convicted of plotting a government overthrow in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in prison, but he remained under home detention pending legal challenges.

High Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after fresh information came to light.

This involved seeking to disable his tracking device and a invitation to a demonstration that could enable a chance to flee".

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a paperwork permitting the custody, the magistrate said information from the centre monitoring Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to guarantee victory in his escape.

Context of Sentencing
