The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
